In August of 2020, Brilla Pax Elementary School opened in the Bronx community of University Heights to three Kindergarten classrooms. As of August 2021, the school serves grades K-1 and will grow one grade each year until reaching full capacity of 450 students, Kindergarten – 4th grade, in 2024. It will then feed into its own middle school.
Brilla Public Charter Schools believe that a joyful culture, built upon positive relationships and strong character, is essential to student outcomes. With this in mind, Brilla Pax Elementary School will intentionally weave a social, emotional and character development program throughout the school day and week. Students will celebrate accomplishments, share news, review and set goals, and learn about Brilla’s character virtues. Throughout the day, students will have opportunities, from specials classes to cross-curricular activities, to demonstrate these virtues and interact with peers in a positive, supportive environment.
Brilla Pax Elementary will use rigorous, evidence-based curricula, and best practices from charter schools across the country that are aligned to the Common Core Standards. Through a classical approach, scholars will be exposed to a range of rich content, and authentic texts, which fosters a strong, academic foundation. Brilla Pax Elementary will also utilize a blended learning and co-teaching model, which allows for targeted, small group instruction in the core content areas.
Brilla Pax Middle School exists to serve the children and families of the Bronx, School District 9, by providing an academically rigorous and virtue-centered education. We are committed to developing the minds and hearts of our students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to succeed in college and beyond. Guided by our belief that all children deserve access to an excellent education, we answer the call to serve, time and time again, in communities where high-quality schooling options are most needed.
Originally, Brilla Pax Middle School was scheduled to open with only 5th grade in the fall of 2025. However, in response to the needs of our community, Brilla Pax will now open its doors to serve grades 5-8. This expansion allows us to offer a complete educational experience from elementary through middle school, ensuring that our scholars can thrive in a supportive and challenging learning environment.
Brilla Schools are open to all students, regardless of background or ability. Enrollment is free, and no entrance exams are required. Join us in our mission to provide an exceptional education for the next generation of leaders.
